Episode Commentary

With the performance of each successive week showing poorer and poorer participation levels in the commentary sections, I've decided to try something new.

Centralized discussion.
The links in each episode recap entitled "Discussion" link directly to the comments area of this article. You can post either from this article or through the links in any of the recaps. All the comments will end up in the same place.

From here on, this will be the spot to come to comment on all the recaps. When I recap new episodes, I'll place a link at the bottom of each epsiode's article that will lead to this spot. Feel free to join the discussion.

For the sake of clarity, if you are going to leave a comment that relates to a specific episode, please use the following format at the beginning of your comment:

S.* Ep.** -

Like so:S.1 Ep.01 - Jack was a bad choice for leader. No one would have put McCoy in charge of the Enterprise.

This way, we'll have a clearer idea of the way your comment fits into the discussion. If you have a general comment, please feel free to post it without the episode reference.
I've also included all the links to all the recaps. Each link opens in its own window, leaving this area in the background, so you can reference anything I have previously posted.

Previous comments from the first half of season 1 are collected and posted in the article below, with each set of episode comments posted in a different colour for clarity.

When the pilot said the radio went out - what does that have to do with anybody "seeing" them? I understand not being able to communicate with the tower (or whoever) - but "they couldn't SEE us".

Does that make sence to anybody else?

BTW
I'm reading the book "The Bad Twin". It is the manuscript that washed up on shore. Darling Cindy was traveling with her boyfriend Gary Troup. So, why was she flirting with Jack?

Does anybody know what happened to him? Is he confirmed dead or was he taken? And what happened to Cindy?

Chuts -
I had similar thoughts about them not being "seen" when the radio went out.
Two posibilities come to mind.
1. The pilot DID have a concussion. Perhaps he just misspoke.
2. He could have been refering to both the radio and the plane's IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) transponder that broadcasts a signal that air traffic controllers see on their screens. Maybe.

"After a quick, panicky run through the jungle, Jack finds himself on the beach amid a hellish tableau of airplane and human wreckage."

Good thing it wasn't Ana-Lucia who Jack first met, or she would have eventually noticed that he ran out of the jungle COMPLETELY DRY, just like Goodwin. Isn't that somewhat odd that Jack was thrown so far from everyone else?

"Do we, or do we not, see the smoke monster for the first time just as the engine explodes?
Judge for yourself."

Now that is really interesting! I missed that when I watched the show on TV, but it's pretty clear here....

While Jack (and apparently Kate) emerged a strangely long distance from everyone else, none of the "Beachies" were in the water, so dry wouldn't be too suspicious...

The link is to an "enhanced" version. I watched it again to be sure that it wasn't more embellishment than enhancement and sure enough, even though it's not quite as vivid as the link portrays, it is there.

Oh, you're right. I didn't think about that. Sometimes I take things at face value when I shouldn't, and sometimes I read too much into things. I guess this is a case of the latter.

Anyway, I love having this site to come to. I'm like some of the others on EW, always read, rarely post. I think you'll see me on here fairly often, as I am definitely obsessed with LOST.

Good point about the IFF. I don't know how these things work.

I also have knowledge of a flashback through the s1 bonus disk that the pilot's mother dated Bernard 20 years ago and he "knows" that physics are fake (as he talks to Clair in the airport). Since it has yet to come into play, I wasn't sure if we could be suspisous of him or not which is why his saying "they couldn't see us" made me wonder.

Did that make any sence?

Ok, so...it seems hard to speculate on some things from these 1st 2 episodes as we have come to the completion of season 2 and have a ~slight~ bit more information than when this all began, but let's talk about the monster. It seems as there is more than one? One stomps through the jungle, smashing palm trees like match sticks and eating pilots (well, not eating them...just chewing on them awhile and then spitting them out). Not in ep. 1 or 2 is the mcsmokey smoke smoke monster than can suck people (Locke) into holes or flash haunting pics in its "being," (Eko) or be perceived as the eye of the island and the most beautiful creature ever (Locke). Are these all one in the same? And why does the monster never bother the tailies (or botpp-back of the plane people, as I call them), and the others never seem to kidnap the fotpp (front of the plane people)? Ok-maybe I actually had a ~few~ questions all in one there...sorry! It may be hard to contain our questions and thoughts to just the 1st and 2nd episode, but it all does realte back to them.

Hi all, stopped in to say hi to all the Losties, who won't be repeating themselves like on ew.com!

GB - great recaps... I keep promising myself that I will be good and rewatch the episodes so I can add something useful besides bad grammar. ;) Also, so I can remember why this made me so crazy... I also think I will be reading into every little nuance like crazy... assuming that they fit into a neat little socket and are connected... it's insane to think that the writers thought of everything... especially when you have people like us tearing this stuff apart...

See, bad grammar, look at that run-on!

Did anyone else notice that Rose would have been without oxygen for a LONG time before Jack got to her? By my count, it was 6 minutes from the opening of Jack's eye to Jack taking over the CPR reins from Boone. And I doubt this was done in real time!

Also - women, chime in if you agree - can we find Sawyer some kind of hair gel in his stash because as hot as he is, his shining moments of hotness are in the pilot!

GB - Was it "Becky" that Kate said her friend's name was because I thought I heard "Beth"? But to be honest, I was pretty into my Chinese food while I watched these eps and could've misheard. And if I'm wrong, I missed a whole syllable and was even more into my Chinese than I thought. Not that it's relevant anyway - I just thought that if it was "Beth," we could add to the list of shortened versions of Elizabeth that we've seen so far.

May 31, 2006 10:12 AM

Monica said...
I forget at what point Jack said this exactly, but he said to Kate at one point: "You're not running now." I love how characters say something and don't realize just how many levels it works on.

May 31, 2006 10:14 AM

LOSTbean said...
monica-good catch on the oxygen depletion for rose. if it really was 6 minutes (and we know 6 minutes our time is like a nanosecond in LOST time), allegedly we, as humans, have 7 minutes before brain damage ensues. but, also, this island has magical healing powers, so maybe any damage from O2 depletion was reversed? bet the writers didn't expect us to be this detail-oriented, eh? :)

May 31, 2006 10:17 AM

Greybishop said...
Monica -
I'll check the Becky/Beth thing, but if it was Elizabeth and you're thinking that refers to Libby, wouldn't Kate have recognized her friend?
I too got an "I gotta do a happy dance" feeling when Jack said "You're not running now."
Good stuff.

May 31, 2006 10:49 AM

Monica said...
Oh no, GB - I didn't mean that if it was Beth that it referred directly to Libby, but I thought it was an interesting name choice. However, it reminds me of an episode of King of Queens where the dad, Arthur, responds to a question from Lou Ferrigno as to why his screenplay has three characters named Mike, and he says something like: "Let me put it this way, Lou. Have you ever met anyone else named Lou?" The answer is of course yes and Arthur says something like "Slice of life, my friend." Anyway, normally that's how I would feel because it is a common name; however, in this show, names mean so much. I just thought it would be interesting since if it was Beth, not Becky, there's that name again.

Monica
Good call on the cpr! In all likelyhood, it was an oversite on the part of the writters. A "saved her in the nick of time" moment. I don't think that, at that time, they knew how big this would get or how much we would tear it apart.

However, if it does get explained, it will probably be that the island slowed time down, so to speak. That the healing properties of the island made it possible for her to survive without oxygen a little longer than normal. Remember that we don't know how long Charlie was hanging before Jack & Kate found him. He should have stayed dead, too. Probably the same phenomana.

LOSTbean said...
i'll see what i can do re. a pic...thanks for the help chuts and monica! chuts-you ever get up to the DC area? we could watch and episode together and dissect it! :) anyway, charlie's lack of oxygen seems much more serious, but this is quite the magical island. maybe the writers really had that planned all along but we never tapped into it until bigger issues, like cancer and bum legs (and infertility perhaps?), were resolved.

Hey Greybishop-

In order to keep things that come up that each person notices that we do not have an answer to; how about you start a list of questions that need to be answered as season 3 starts. If we number each one, I believe the list will be quite long. However, it will allow us to cross stuff off our list as they are answered. What do you think?

May 31, 2006 5:33 PM

Kat said...
I agree with you, Lostbean, re: combine into 3 to 4 fully packed seasons. Unfortunately, I'm slightly pessimistic since I am willing to bet after Season 3 if it's still going strong, there's going to be the problem with the actors ("But, I deserve a million an episode or I won't come back...") and it will never make the 8 seasons...

Hey, Graybishop & Co.!

My friend and fellow LOST confidante LostBean introduced me to this blog. Very cool. I'm looking for some beefy insights (and I'm not just talking about Sawyer and Jack...wink.) I LOVED your clip of the proposed first appearance of Smokey McSmoke just before the engine blew. Had never seen that before. Verrrry interesting.

I recently saw a freeze-frame of a shot of our survivors on the beach amidst the chaos of the crash. Among those beached appeared to be someone who looked very much like "Zeke, The Other" minus the beard and ratty clothes. Anyone else see that or have thoughts on whether Zeke made his first official appearance in episode 1?

And here are a few more Zeke images for comparison:

I just have to say, I am so loving this board with you guys. I didn't think that I would come here as often as I do, but now I'm addicted... I gotta catch up and watch the eps so I can contribute better.

Crazy4Lost said...
I finally sat down and finished up watching ep 1 & 2. Hope you are ready for my observations....

Ep 1 -

During the leaf plane crash explanation by Jack to Kate, Jack says he took flying lessons and "it wasn't for me." His tone was as if he took lessons because he had to or for someone else.

When the threesome reached the cockpit portion of the plane I noticed two things. 1) There is a leaf with a bright yellow line across it. It appears to be 2-3 inches wide. What is it? 2) There is a huge singe type mark on the outside of the plane between the cockpit and the 1st class windows. Why is it there, there wasn't any way for that to be a burn mark, was it? And the singe is a strange shape. For those who look at the hidden things at the Hanso site, it looks alot like markings that appear on the letters hidden on Mittlewerk's page.

Inside the cockpit portion of the plane, as the threesome are making their way climbing upwards, there is a brief camera focus on a long, circular, plastic wrapped object sitting on top of what appears to be a newspaper. This appears out of place and illogical to think it wouldn't be blown out when the plane split. And what is it?

Why were there no survivors, except(ever so briefly)the pilot, from 1st class?

Ep 2

As Charlie is dashing to the front of the plane, we see Jack, Rose, Locke, Boone, and Shannon. I couldn't see any of our other Losties. I find this strange. Also, Charlie was sitting about 5 rows behind Jack when he started his exodus to the plane's forward most bathrooms, which are right by the cockpit door (in front of 1st class). Yet, as the crash started to happen, Charlie made his way out of the bathroom and buckled himself into a seat in the same section of the plane as Shannon and Boone. This means he went all the way through 1st class into the next section of the plane!! Why wouldn't he have just taken the first seat he saw in 1st class??

When Jack gives the transceiver to Sayid, Sayid says its a dual-band, military spec. Is this a normal transceiver for a commercial airlines?

Jack finds a straight blade razor to operate on the marshall. Charlie has heroin in his shoe, these are both odd occurrences in a post 9-11 world.

And now for a funny: Kate takes the gun from Sawyer after the bear shooting. Kate says: "Does anybody know how to use a gun?" Charlie says: "I think you just pull the trigger." :)

My thoughts are if it's going to be in an Excel spreadsheet, why not have several columns. Put the questions in one column, dates submitted in the next, categorize like GB said and maybe use "High" "Medium" and "Low" for weighted or priority level. Then people can sort according to what they want. you could even add a column for who it refers to: Tailies, The Others, Lost general, individual characters... oh and don't forget a column for "Resolution" so that if we finally get answers to questions or raised issues, we can log it there...

OK, I maybe deal with spreadsheets a little too much... ;)

That's three "beyond my budget" rings. I never even considered asking for them back for "recycling". I'm such a shmoe.

Hope that gets resolved soon.
New reviews every Saturday and/or Sunday, luck, work, and stamina withstanding.
I'm targetting Saturday, but life might get in the way some weeks.
For instance, yesterday at this time, I had Thursday night, Friday Night and Saturday Night clear. Then, the phone rang and I ended up with gigs all 3 nights.
Money is nice, but having a life can also be good. So I'm told.

I know the song, but I never really thought about the lyrics. Something about a guy singing to a girl...
I tend to relate more to songs like "Self-Esteem" by the Offspring. That song came out while I was being emotionally pummelled by the only ex I've ever taken back after a break up. Apropos, as they say....

My guess is that Randy knows that Locke has too much pride to go the lawsuit route. I'd bet that with the completely unpredictable exception of Hurley and his winning ticket, Randy has a pretty good read on people. We've only seen him twice, but if Hurley had not won the lottery, Randy had him right where he wanted him. I'd bet that we're going to see more of him and he'll be just as obnoxious and just as right.

Responded on EW but must have used a word it determined was foul. I didn't, but those censors never make sense to me.

Just want to assure you that I'm betting there are many people like me in "Lost Land" who are regular readers of both EW and your blog but rarely are we contributors. How selfish are we? Take, take, take, never give anything back.

I really enjoy your recaps. Makes me realize how much I've missed when watching the episodes. Of course, it also intimidates the crap out of me! You and all the other regulars (Monica, Crazy4lost, et al) seem to really be a bit more dedicated than I am. Reading all your comments makes me want to go out and purchase Season 1 so I can watch and rewatch to see everything you're all seeing. I sometimes wonder if I'm watching an entirely different show!

Just know that there are people out here who really appreciate all the work you're putting into all of this.

Hey all, I have been reading but not posting. Right now I am trying to catch up with everyone. Just got through Episodes 3 and 4. I look forward to the summer project.

The first time I watched this I thought that the guy in the suite with white shoes (maybe it was no shoes)that Jack kept seeing was the Marshall. Jack never saw him till after he had to finish Sawyer's screwed up death penlty. Then the next week we get to see the whole story and how even the hero has a screwed up life just like everyone else on the island.

It is funny how much you missed during the first time around and after season two so much makes sense. I still wonder about some of the unknow monsters on the island. Do we ever see them again? There was not as much about them as ther was about the others in season two.

I hope to get through Episode 4 and 5 so I am caught up with everyone.

Thanks for the blog! It was nice to find.

Episodes 05 & 06

Lady-in-Gray said...
GB: Another great recap! I really enjoy your writing style. Since I don't have TIVO, a DVD player or even a working VCR, I have to rely on your recaps, another site's "transcripts" and reruns to pick up on things that I missed the first time around.

There are two things that I would like to inquire about and comment on. My questions involve Sun and Jin. I vaguely remember Jin being sent to LA to deliver a watch for Sun's father. Did Sun's father make the reservations and did he intend for Sun to accompany Jin? Also, what is their prior connection to the other Losties? Another site mentioned that Hurley's picture was on a TV screen in an office that Jin visited. Other than that, I don't recall their paths crossing with anyone else before they arrived at the airport.

My comments invlolve the black and white stones that someone inquired about earlier. They could simply be "worry stones" that are popular in some cultures. Or they could have a religious/belief system significance. For example, a Native American carried a "Medicine Bag" (leather pouch) which contained items (usually stone) from which he gained personal strength and power (medicine). Or, the stones could have been used for up or down voting (blackballing).

Thanks for putting your time and effort into this project. You are, indeed, a talented writer. You also have good diplomacy skills. If you really repair phones for a living, your talents are being wasted.. . . .

P.S. I can't believe that you HATE Hockey!!! It's the ONLY sport that I can actually sit still and focus on long enough to enjoy!!! Go Stars!

Thanks much for the nice compliments. Always nice to know that my work is being enjoyed and appreciated.
To your questions.
1. Hurley shows up (probably during a post lotto win interview) very briefly on the tv in the livingroom of a government official that Jin is sent to "deliver a message" to. Although I haven't recapped that episode yet, I believe he also gets the puppy that he give Sun in the same scene.
2. The stones. Lots of possiblities. I think your "up/down" vote idea (considering we only see 2 bodies) has merit. You know, white stone makes dinner, etc.
Possibly they are just worry stones, but with all the black/white imagery in the show, I doubt they're JUST worry stones. The medicine bag idea is one I never considered, but if it was a medicine bag wouln't there be more in it, like a feather, etc?
And, I totally agree. My talents are being wasted, but no one has yet offered me a six figure salary to pursue my greatest talent, the ability to sleep 14 hours at a time without interruption. I'm still looking though...

Just wanted to let you know that all your time and effort is most appreciated. Please don't stop.

Don't we find out later that Sun's Dad wanted Jin to deliver the watch to someone in LA, so he (the dad) could be guaranteed that Jin didn't run off and disappear (with Sun of course)? LiG,

Yeah, I got the idea that Sun's dad knew Jin was going to try and jump ship. The watch delivery was somehow the dad's insurance that Jin would return. I also thought it was interesting that both Sun and Jin were trying escape from their current lives, unbeknownst to each other.

Anyway, I don't know which episode or season that flashback was in. The problem is I watched only a couple of episodes from season 1 when they originally aired and then tried to fill in when they ran reruns last summer. Talk about confusing.
Okay, like you needed all that information. Sorry.

I could be wrong but I got the idea that Jin only wanted to escape Sun's father. I thought he had planned to take Sun with him so they could regain what they originally had together. As for who booked them on that flight, I have no clue.
As to why she went with him, weren't they going on vacation? Just a guess on that one.

Hey all, I posted late to the last two episodes but I have been reading for a few weeks now and thought I would catch up with everyone for the summer project.

As for Sun and Jin, I too have had a hard time figuring out how they are connected to the rest of the losties.

I thought that they were going to LA so Jin could deliver the watch for Sun's father. For some reason I thought that Sun talked Jin into letting her go, so they could try to get back what they use to have but Sun really just wanted to run away from Jin at the airport.

I could be wrong about that and I will be interested to figure out who paid for their tickets also.

On another note I was reading TV guide today and saw where they were going to introduce three new charters to the group. (A "Very Attractive" female in her twenties, a Latino hunk and a thirty something female with leadership abilities). That may be old news to everyone one. My thing is how they are going to introduce them. Wonder if they are supposed to be extras that are going to step forward since Jack, Sawyer, and Kate are with now with the OTHERS.

Sorry to stray from Year 1 105 and 106.

Look forward to the rest of the episodes.

You can also link to the TV Guide info on the casting call at www.
tvguide.com/news/ausiello/askausiello/ Then click on the "Ausiello Report" tab. He does a weekly report/blog with scoops/spoilers and exclusive interviews. There's usually something in there every week about Lost. Check out the link to the new Hanso site also www.retrieversoftruth.com to learn more (more questions??) about Vincent.

"At this point, somewhere in the States, Celeste Hutsonpillar's clothes fell off."

Oh my Gosh, I actually laughed out loud at that! Holy crap, that was funny!

"Kate finally agrees. Sawyer gets his (very hot) kiss. Greybishop is left with feelings of extreme jealousy."

You're not kidding, that was a hot kiss. From a woman's perspective, I think there were a LOT of people who were left with feelings of extreme jealousy. Sawyer definitely seems to know what he is doing.

Great recap once again, GB. I am patiently waiting for my Season One to arrive from e-bay. OK, I'm waiting, but not so patiently. How long can it take to get here, for Pete's sake??? I'm going to O.D. on LOST when it finally arrives. Then it will be time for me to re-watch all of Season Two that I have saved on DVR, and get ready for Season Three to begin. Woo-hoo!

Interesting how in "The Moth" lots of people's "coccoons"/clothes came off. Funny how in the first viewing of these episodes way back when, much of the subtle symbolism was not picked up (at least not by me, even watching every episode). Now with your "Summer of Lost" we/I am forced to really go back and appreciate some of the elaborate writing.

Also important to note: everybody, myself included, got caught up in some of the character's hotness (i.e.Sawyer/KateJack) but these early eps show some interesting character traits/flaws/strengths that I started to forget about. I don't care how hot Sawyer is,he can look you STRAIGHT IN THE EYES and lie without flinching. I've noticed in several eps that Jack can't look at anyone and lie-wussy!

They don't get it, and you (I) end up looking like an idiot. By the way, which half of the cat would you like to have? Left? Right? Front? Back? Inside? Outside?

LB--I am one of the lucky few who gets to stay home with the kids. When we relocated from Miami, I told my husband I didn't want to go back to work. A few months later, I got pregnant, and I've been a stay at home Mom ever since. He keeps asking when I'm going back to work, and I tell him I've officially retired! Of course, I don't really get sick days or vacation days, but this job does have a lot of perks. Once the kids were settled last night, I watched episodes 1-4. I would have watched more, but I knew that they would be getting me up early, so I had to get some sleep. I plan to do the same thing tonight. I can't wait for bedtime! (Their's, not mine.)

GB: Another great job! The "whispers" was a nice addition but I did miss the "songs"....

For those of us who haven't been on the EW board since Season 1, I need some clarification on what you mean by "island in a bottle". Are you referring to a self-contained, man-made environment such as Biosphere 2? Is the electromagnetic field the "container"?

June 25, 2006 10:39 AM

Greybishop said...
Lady-in-gray -
If there had been songs, I'd have done them. I like them too, although I must admit, they are usually the most time consuming element of the review. As to the island in a bottle, it's the fulcrum of my main theory. The whole thing is laid out towards the bottom of the main blog under "Greybishop's pet theories". I haven't altered them since they were originally posted, so I can use the post as a yardstick for how good or bad my theories were once the truth comes out. I haven't added it to them, but I do figure that the EM field, the button and the mechanical sounds that the great tree crusher makes are all directly related to the integrity of the "bottle". The EM field might be the container or it might be an open/close mechanism for a more "physical" hatch or doorway. I just don't know yet. The good news, for me at least, is that by doing these reviews I have been able to site some of the dialogue and events that lead me to the "Island in a bottle" theory...

June 25, 2006 11:14 AM

Lady-in-Gray said...
GB: I just read "Pet Theories,V3" and I am wondering if theories 3 and 5 could both be true (theory 5 could be the reason for theory 3).

I don't recall the weird tide event but, if I remember correctly, sinking in the sand at the beach as the waves roll in and out is normal. The cable is another matter, though. Could the island be "plugged in" from somewhere offshore or could something offshore (a sea lab, maybe) be "plugged in" from the island???

My theory about the "great tree crusher" is that it was built into the island to purposefully create a distraction from something else that Dharma doesn't want its inhabitants to see or know about. Have we actually seen any evidence of downed or damaged trees on the island?

June 25, 2006 12:22 PM

Greybishop said...
L-i-g -
The tidal event is in mid season. I think it happens around episode 12 or 13. All of a sudden, after 2 weeks or so of regular tidal action, the tide comes far enough up the beach that it washes most of the wreckage away. Odd, to say the least.
And, yes, my idea is sort of a theory 3 is the chosen environment for theory 5.
I suspect the cable is going to turn out to be very important. It's just too wierd and too totally ignored in season two not to be crucial.
Great tree pusher is another non-element in Season two and like many here, I'm not convinced that Mr. Smokey and Great Tree Pusher are one in the same. When Mr. Smokey shows, it seems to explode from the ground with some violence. We've also seen it sort of dart through the trees. No evidence yet of it pushing them aside like Great Tree Pusher seems to when we see it in episode 1. Like the possibility of more than one group of "Others"(, it is entirely possible that we only think we've see it, while there could be another entity or entities that have yet to be revealed.

June 25, 2006 10:41 PM

Lady-in-Gray said...
GB: I don't think that Smokey and the Tree Pusher are the same either. I feel that Smokey is a Protector of something. Locke felt safe with it and Eko just defied it. I'm just not sure what it is protecting but I'm leaning towards the island itself rather than Dharma.

June 25, 2006 11:47 PM

LOSTbean said...
so, what do we THINK the cable is about and exactly what is at each end of it? i guess i would've followed the cable into the water if i had scuba/diving gear and a boat. that seems of more interest to me than one that goes into the jungle, especially knowing the creepy things that live in the jungle. but i really am interested in that rope! any theories?

June 26, 2006 1:04 PM

Lady-in-Gray said...
LB: It's got to be a power cord or a trans-oceanic communications/telephone line. I'm pretty sure that in 1980 that was just about the only way to make an overseas phone call.

We know that Danielle knows about the cable because that's where she set her traps. I'm pretty sure that she and/or her team at least tried to find the source of the cable. I guess that's about all that we know about the cable at this point.

June 26, 2006 1:49 PM

LOSTbean said...
L-I-G...very interesting! i thought it was a ROPE, but it seems it is more of a CABLE. that makes it most interesting! do you think danielle knows what it's for, or just that it exists?

We know, from episode 11 that the tide has been rising unnaturally fast since they first mentioned it in episode 10. According to Shannon, Boone and Locke have been all mysterious for 4 days now. So unless it's a 4 day storm surge with no storm, somethin's up.

July 09, 2006 10:29 PM

Jess said...
Hmm, storm surge but no storm. Despite having lived in Miami, I really don't know about stuff like that. I do know that when we vacation in North Carolina, the water sometimes comes up the beach so far that it is actually under the house. Could there be a storm out at sea, causing the water level to rise at the beach? As much as I enjoyed The Truman Show, I really hope that doesn't turn out to be the case with Lost.

Celeste Hutsonpillar's house is not one of them.

He convinces Kate to join him for a swim. Where he removed only his shirt, our heroine takes off her pants. There are any number of establishments where she would now be unable to get service.

My house is not one of them.

Cavorting ensues.

During their swim, the two survivors come upon another couple in the water, only these two are not so much cavorting as cadavering."

Another great recap. Bravo!

I know that we discussed the weird tide before, but I remember an event many years ago that might shed light on that. I was living in an apartment that overlooked Galveston Bay. One morning we awoke to find that the tide had swamped the boat dock and was encroaching on the steps and sun-decks above the dock.

There was a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico at the time. It was a few days offshore. The tide continued to rise and the hurricane eventually hit land about 160 or so miles south of us. All we got was some light rain and that dock and sun-deck swamping high tide.

I didn't live there more than a few months so I didn't really notice what the "normal" tide patterns were. Since Crazy4Lost lives on the Gulf Coast, maybe she pays a little more attention to such things than I did and can say if it's normal or not for a hurricane to cause unusually high tide when it's still hundreds of miles away.

Any ideas C4L?

L-i-G, that's what I was getting at, but I also don't know much about tides and such. That was the most logical explanation I could come up with. Or, in keeping with Occam's Razor, the *simplest.*
